This walk takes in the southern ridge of Cerillo Redondo above the prominent rocks known locally as Tajos de Posito. It is a simple and trackless walk on a broad but rough ridge.
Take the track on the east side of Lanjaron just after leaving the town. Signs point to Cañar, Caballo Blanco and Chaparra. The tarmac runs out after a couple of kilometres, thence it is rough track, but suitable with care for normal saloon cars. Pass Caballo Blanco Horse Riding stables after 15 minutes and at the next major junction bear left when a sign for Cañar appears. Keep heading uphill. You will pass to the right of the self sufficiency stronghold of Semilla Besada. The track winds its way up the hillside. Avoid the first left off the ridge to Tello. 5 minutes later to are at a junction. Right to Puente Palo. Left into the Rio Lanjaron. Park here. Total time from Lanjaron 35 minutes. Altitude is 1700m.
You ascend the easy but rough ridge and there is even some simple scrambling (always avoidable) in places. The ridge may be followed to the peak of Cuna (2292m) or even Cerillo Redondo itself (3055m). The peak of the Cerro de Caballo (3009m) is always prominent ahead and the route from the Ventura Hut is easily identifiable.
We normally return by heading either left to the mountain tracks above Tello or right to Puente Palo. Either way gives superlative views.
