When southern Spain hits 40°C+, you either go high or go low. We chose low — an unmaintained river walk through the Sierra de Almijara that turned into a five-hour, 8km battle through brambles, fallen trees, and deep pools. We planned 14km but we eventually bottled it in favour of some ice cold beers.
The Barranco de la Luna. A short but very, very sweet half day hike in the Valle de Lecrin this morning. An early start rewards with the best light and colour. And ... we had it all to ourselves. Marv...
Things don't always work out as planned. Nature always wins eh? Today I had packed my high mountain gear ready for a snow day but our dirt road into the high mountains was blocked by a landslide. Inst...
View on the way to "work 🤣" yesterday! Pampaneira town with Capileira outlined on the higher shoulder above the Poqueira Gorge. The peak of Veleta (3394m) in the Sierra Nevada beyond.
Taking a photography group through the "Pueblos Blancos" villages of Capileira, Bubion and Pampaneira yesterday. So, guess what? Here's some images of white village scenes 😂
1/ Tough hike but what a day, still buzzing! Sometimes I don't think we fully appreciate just how much raw, untamed beauty and wildness we have so close to our homes. Saw nobody all day. Gotta go back...
View from the morning dog walk looking down the deep valley of the Rio Lanjarón. The cliffs of the Tajos del Colorado are to the left and small cortijos (outlying settlements of Lanjarón) on the sunli...
The stunning winter mountain scenery of the upper Lanjaron valley looking towards the peak of Veleta 3394m. Taken from the Cerro de Caballo summit 3009m, a few days ago.
The Cerro de Caballo (3009m) in Spain's Sierra Nevada doesn't look like it's summit is 2400m vertical above the town of Lanjarón in the Alpujarra. Its deceptive, but nevertheless a lovely mountain tha...
Battening down the hatches here for tonight and tomorrow. Amber warnings for wind and rain. No doubt our house roof will leak under prolonged heavy downpour (they all do 🤣). Schools and Universities i...
Looking at this photo, now I realise that it's about time I got off my rear end and headed up into those lovely white snows. It's the best early season snowfall for quite some time, maybe 5+ years? Go...
Sat on the summit of Morrón de Enmedio 1080 metres eating our sandwiches and looking at the stunning Sierra Nevada rising above Granada. Stunning views, no wind, warm air (even the volcanic vent varie...
Just love those mountain days when the early morning cloud starts to dissipate and the light constantly changes thereafter. These are the Cumbres Verdes mountains just outside Granada
In a few days I've gone from a southern hemisphere late spring/early summer to a northern hemisphere late autumn/early winter environment. Nowhere was this more evident than yesterday when hiking in t...
Unusual view looking down on the village of Capileira in the Alpujarras from high up on the slopes of Las Alegas (2700m) in the Sierra Nevada. The morning sun has reached all parts of the village but t...
